Kiyomizu Ware Matcha Bowl Ayame

This exquisite Kiyomizu-yaki (Kiyomizu ware) matcha bowl features blooming iris (ayame) flowers, delicately painted with golden accents, symbolizing the beauty of early summer in Japan when irises flourish in May.

The bowl showcases the traditional Gohonte technique, where faint pinkish-orange blushes appear naturally on the clay surface during firing. This soft pink band enhances the charm of the piece, making every bowl truly unique.

Handcrafted by Kahou Nakamura II of Tofuku Kiln, the work reflects refined Kyoto pottery traditions. Born in 1977 as the son of renowned ceramic artist Nakamura Gensui, he succeeded the family name in 2005. His works have been showcased at Takashimaya Kyoto, the Kyoto International Conference Center tea room, and featured in Gion’s “Kyo Café Comme Ça.”

With its harmonious form, seasonal iris motif, and subtle Gohonte pink tones, this matcha bowl is ideal for tea ceremony practice, seasonal celebrations, or as an elegant display piece.
