Ujitawara holds a special place in tea history as the birthplace of modern Japanese green tea, established by Nagatani Souen in 1738. The Nagatani tea farm lies in the foothills of the mountains, with no residential areas above, ensuring pure, clean water flows directly into the river – a vital factor in producing high-quality tea leaves.

Cultivar: Gokoh (Gokou)

A prized cultivar known for its deep green color and luxurious flavor. Smooth, velvety, and rich in umami, with a lingering sweetness and subtle floral-fruity aroma. Perfect for both usucha and koicha.

Uji Matcha Gokoh (Gokou) – Premium Ceremonial Grade Green Tea

Content: 20 g or 40g

Instructions:

Sift the Matcha Green Tea powder in an empty Matcha bowl before adding hot water.

For a hot drink: Put 1-2g of Matcha Green Tea powder in a Matcha bowl, add hot water equivalent to 1/3 of your Matcha bowl (80 degrees) and whisk for 1 minute by using a bamboo whisk. Add more hot water according to your liking.

For a cold drink: Put 1-2g of Matcha Green Tea powder in a Matcha bowl, add hot water equivalent to 1/3 of your cup (ideally 80 degrees) and whisk for 1 minute by using a bamboo whisk. Then add cold water and some ice. Adjust the amount of water according to your liking.

Easiest way to make Cold Matcha: Add 1-2g of Matcha green tea powder in a water bottle or in a clean jar. Add small amount of cold water (around 80ml), close the lid and shake it well until the lumps disappear. Add more cold water according to your liking.
