How to utilise used loose tea leaves

Dec 5, 2019 Japanese tea 2 Comments

I was asked by a lovely customer about how to utilise the used green teas so I wanted to share 😊

Most recommended way

✔️Eat with salad, rice, pasta etc  Check the previous post

Because when you brew tea you are taking most of water and nutrients are in the leaves.   The used loose leaf still have 70-80% nutrients left.

Our Sencha loose leaf has very few stems and mostly soft leaves so it is very easy to eat it by adding to pasta, rice, salad and omelette.

For the Silken Tofu, I added the following to the used Sencha loose leaf

  • 1 tsp soy sauce
  • 1 tsp grated ginger

Stir and top over Silken Tofu

Yum!

Other ways:

✔️Deodorising: Roast them in a fry pan – it will create aroma in the room and removes the odour and mouldy smell. You can also put the roasted leaves in the fridge or shoes cabinet.

✔️Cleaning: Drain the leaves as much as possible and put them on the floor and sweep them off to prevent the dust from swirling. You can also put the dried tea leaves on the carpet to enhance its sheen

✔️Preventing rust: Put them in iron pan to polish to prevent rust

✔️Take advantage of Anti-bacterial effect: Gargle your mouth with tea water which is steeped for a long time. Wipe baby’s bottom with a tea soaked cloth

✔️Use it for compost – it will be good fertiliser for pot plants

The right photo shows I left the Sencha for some time in the sink for anti-bacterial and anti-odour

I am doing regular tea tasting and next up is at Jolywood Winter fair and Christmas market 2019 which will be held at QSI school in Mosta (Triq Durumblat Mosta), this Saturday 7th December 16:00-21:00.

Stay tuned on our Facebook event page to see where I will be!

I would like to share my passion about the Japanese green tea so come say hi!
