Apr 12, 2023 Japanese culture 2 Comments

There is a classical Japanese dance-drama that has been performed since the 14th century which is called ‘Noh’.  The actors wear masks called Nohmen.  Frequently used masks represent demons and spirits, as well as women and men of various ages.  Noh masks are also called omote (front), and it is said that by putting on a face to show the face, the performer hides in the darkness behind the mask.

Okame お亀

Okame’s role is to “exorcise” or “amulet against evil”, and is a “god who invites good fortune”.
