What you need to know about green tea

I’d like to share more information about green tea and my experience with our green teas.

<What you need to know about green tea>

  1.  Iron intake

If you have Anemia, you shouldn’t drink green tea with your meal since it interrupts iron intake from plants (such as spinach and lentils).  It will not affect if you consume iron that comes from animal proteins.  I’m not Anemia but I was diagnosed with low iron when I was pregnant so I am careful about it.  You can drink it one hour after a meal or between meals.

2. Caffeine in green tea

Although the amino acid L-Theanine is said to improve sleep quality, you shouldn’t drink the green tea in late evening because of the caffeine.  Our Kariganecha (stem tea) is an ideal evening green tea for me since it is rich in minerals and helps with digestion after the meal.  I also crave Genmaicha sometimes and I drink this tea in the late afternoon or with dinner.  Because this tea is blended with toasted brown rice, the caffeine is much less than normal green tea itself.

The effect of caffeine in green tea is different from the one of coffee.  Since the caffeine in green tea works well balanced with Amino acid L-theanine, the green tea gives us a calm alert and you do not get nervous or jittery like you get with coffee.  It is also because the catechins (antioxidants) help the caffeine to go into the blood rather slowly.

There are people who feel a burning sensation in the stomach so try to avoid drinking it on an empty stomach for the first time.  It is always good to drink a glass of water when you wake up and before you sleep as well as during the day to stay hydrated.

Update: We just launched Hojicha which has almost NO caffeine thanks to the roasting process.  Children and pregnant women can drink this tea without worrying about the caffeine content.

3.  Amount of green tea

Balanced diet and regular exercises are always the key to stay healthy, thus same applies for the amount of green tea you consume.  Please do not exaggerate and drink too much to get a fast result.  This is a natural product and not some magic chemical powder so it may take some time to get the goal you wish to reach.  These cannot  replace any medical products which are prescribed by your doctor so consult with your doctor first.

<My experience with our teas>

I’ve changed my lifestyle after I was pregnant with my first child around 2005.  I’ve met some people who were conscious eaters and I started to read about healthy eating.  We’ve started to take our tea regularly when we started our business in 2017 and I’ve been feeling healthier ever since.  I would say my immunity used to be lower than average people but it has improved.  I take Matcha green tea powder or Sencha green tea powder in the morning with my breakfast and it’s giving me long lasting energy.

Before, when I used to start to feel that I was catching a cold, I used to take paracetamol.  Now I don’t take it, but I try with natural stuff as much as possible.   Gargling with salty water is common knowledge not to catch a cold in Japan and we try to do this as much as possible.   When I have sore throat I also take honey and I lick the Sencha green tea powder which is left on the teaspoon when I make my tea.  When I feel cold because of the flu, I make a lot of ginger drink with lemon by grating fresh organic ginger.  I’ve noticed that my children’s immunity have also improved and I am managing not to give antibiotics.  I love the quote ‘Health is your best wealth’.  I prefer to spend more money for healthier food than having to spend more money on doctors and antibiotics.

I hope you enjoy our tea and our tea helps you in some way.

Thank you very much for your support and Happy Christmas to everyone!!

Keep our tea handy in case you eat too much or drink too much during this festive season 😉
