Matcha green tea biscuits

I have two children and they are born in Malta and brought up in Malta.  They both love Japanese food and also Matcha flavored sweets.  Matcha green tea powder is also used in the recipes of sweets such as Ice-cream, Swiss rolls, Macarons, Cheese cake and etc.  Every time we go to Japan for holiday, we always eat Matcha Ice cream.

I have made Matcha green tea biscuits the other day and they were very nice so I thought it would be great to post the recipe here.

Ingredients:

  • Plain flour 200 g
  • Matcha green tea powder 1-2 table spoon
  • Baking powder 1 teaspoon
  • Cream cheese 120 g
  • Sugar 100 g
  • Butter 80 g
  • Egg 1 (leave 1 table spoon to coat the biscuits before baking)
  • Sesami seeds 1 table spoon

Method:

  1. Leave 80 g butter outside fridge so it will be soft enough to stir
  2. Using an electric whisker and stir butter, sugar and egg in a bowl
  3. Sift the flour, Matcha green tea powder and the baking powder and mix with step 2
  4. You will make 16 biscuits so you prepare 16 portion of cheese and 16 mixture of step 3
  5. Make a small ball then flat it on your hand. Put cheese in the middle and cover and shape it nicely
  6. Heat the overn 180 degrees
  7. Place the biscuits on a tray, coat with egg and put some sesame seeds on top.
  8. Bake for 15 min

It doesn’t show very green in this photo but there is nice aroma and flavor of Matcha green tea just with 1 table spoon Matcha green tea powder!
